Our Background
Access to Creative Play Foundation was registered in March 2016 with the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission and has over 20 years of experience in transformative projects focused on child rights advocacy and community support.
Our journey began with the Theatre for Advocacy Projects and theatrical performances, alongside media programs such as “Leaders of Tomorrow” on AIT in 2004, which aimed to educate the public about children’s rights through engaging media programming.
Between 2007 and 2010, we implemented a Free Summer Educational Program in Lagos State, engaging over 1,100 adolescents each year. This initiative aimed to deter youth from social norms such as exposure to crime, prostitution, and other social vices during school holidays, becoming the first of its kind in Lagos State.
From 2012 to 2015, we staged impactful performances such as “The Invisible,” “Accursed,” and “Voices,” which raised awareness about the challenges faced by street children, children affected by HIV, and mental health issues.
In the Northeast states of Borno, Yola, and Adamawa, we worked directly with over 30,000 children and their caregivers, providing creative play interventions as psychosocial support for those affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. We also offered a nutrition program to address the dietary needs of vulnerable children and families, alongside hygiene promotion and livelihood support aimed at empowering families impacted by conflict.
Our broader interventions encompass disaster recovery, resilience building, mental health and psychosocial support, conflict transformation, peacebuilding, water sanitation and hygiene, and combating violence against women and children. Additionally, we offered consultancy services providing training and facilitation in social skills, team building, and communication, along with the development of training manuals for various organizations.
As the first Nigerian organization specializing in Applied Drama, Theatre for Social Change, and Applied Improvisation, Access to Play Foundation is dedicated to using these artistic mediums to address pressing social issues and foster community development.
